The Furgang cottage is a cute, bright and sunny A-frame in Eastham,
just north of First Encounter Beach, which is Eastham’s most southerly
public bay beach. If you’ve never been to this end of town, you’re
missing an extensive beach with a large parking lot and no stairs. The
cottage is almost at the end of a dead-end dirt road, diagonally across
the road from a neighborhood deeded access path that runs between two
waterfront cottages. It has a living room with one wall of sliding
glass doors, a separate dining room, small but clean, well-equipped
kitchen, and bath with a stall shower, plus two small bedrooms on the
main floor. There is a wrap-around deck on three sides, where there is
an enclosed outside shower. An iron spiral staircase in the living room
leads to a sleeping loft with a futon. (Parents: consider the staircase
and the waist-high rail of the balcony when deciding if this is safe
for your small children.) The owners have recently added basic cable TV
and gas heat for spring and fall comfort. This is a modern version of
the family escape cottage of the 50s. |
