Everyone thinks of cape Cod as a beach
resort. History buffs study the whaling era and the daring rescues
of the pre-Coast Guard watermen. This was the era of the sailing
ships and many a ship's captain's home still dots the local
landscape. One such old place is the Maillet house, built by a
Captain Dill in 1840. This whaling era house, conveniently
located in the center of Eastham, is now a spacious three bedroom,
two bathroom rental with a large back yard looking out over the
distance to Nauset Inlet and the great Atlantic ocean beyond.
Walking distance to Eastham's old windmill and the town green, it's
approximately a half mile to Great Pond. The closest salt water
beach is First Encounter Beach, Eastham's most attractive and
historic public bay beach, where the Pilgrims first came face to face
with the native Wampanoag Indians. The house has air conditioning,
washer and dryer, dishwasher, cable TV with DVD/VCR, WiFi, phone, and
an enclosed shore shower .
Both Maillet places (See Maillet
Cottage) rent Sunday to Sunday. It is often difficult to find two
rentals together where a family can reunite for a shared vacation,
but the Maillet property, although too small to be considered a
compound, has the same feeling of separate togetherness. The house
and cottage are available individually and some weeks are available
together. Please see our VACANCIES page for the available dates.
