This waterfront cottage is on
Wellfleet's Indian Neck. One of the “remote but accessible”
mini-peninsulas created by the town's irregular shoreline of
estuaries and inlets, Indian Neck separates Wellfleet's own smaller
bay from Blackfish Creek, once the shipping route to the port of
South Wellfleet.
The Nemetz cottage is on
the western shoreline, or “swimming side” of the neck and looks
out across Wellfleet harbor to Billingsgate Island, where the
original town was located before time and tides reduced it to little
more than a sand bar. The cottage's large windows and deck frame
the sea in all its moods and showcase Wellfleet's magnificent bay
sunsets.
Designed by its architect-owner, the
cottage was built in the late 50s at the height of the boxy Bahaus
architecture which dots the more wooded areas of town. It
incorporates the rebellious openness and flat lines of that era but
breaks away with more windows and an open deck to embrace the sea.
Inside, the living area is spacious and open, merging with the
expansive view. It has five bedrooms, one on the main floor and
four on the lower walk-out level, which is built into the dune.
There is a waterside patio and direct, easy access to the private
beach.. This cottage has been
modernized, yet
retains all of the original architectural lines and attitude. It
has two bathrooms, one on each level, and washer/dryer, dishwasher,
phone, and WiFi. The TV has DVD and VCR for watching movies, but due
to its remoteness it is not connected to cable and is not able to
recieve TV signals. Bring a laptop for connecting with on-line
programming. The cottage comes with the right to use newly resurfaced
tennis
courts a short distance down the road.
